Samuel's Story
"Hello, my name is Samuel. I am seven and enjoying my weekend. Every day during the week I go to school with my big brother and sister. We walk for 3 km each way. It takes a long time but we are very hapy and money for breakfast gives us energy.
Before our parents became beekeepers there was no money to send us to school. No we have a uniform and shoes and we feel very smart.
We are all learning to read, write and add up. Soon I will be able to study geography, science and history. My sister Amalia likes to draw and dance. She wants to be a nurse. My brother wants to be a engineer and I would like to be a teacher.
Our grandmother lives with us now and she can affort to put money towards medicine for her arthritis. She helps us by labelling the honey jars.
During weekends and holidays we like to help with the business too. We all make candles from the beeswax. The light they give helps us do our homework. My mother and sister make face and hand cream from beeswax and herbs. Grandma uses this to help smooth her skin, rough from working in the fields.
My brother and I help with the honey orders. My brother does the paperwork and I help my father load up the honey ready for the market. All the products we make can be sold.
Our parents have paid back the loan that helped them buy their first beehives, so now we can eat every day and sometimes we have something really special".
Please help more families like ours have a start in life.
