hi, I was wondering if someone could give me some advice please? I was tidying the garden up today and pulled some old plants out and seem to have come across a lot of bees, a hell of a lot! They are brown in colour, sort of teddy bear coloured. They are very near the house and fence to the next door garden, she has 2 very young children so the bees really can't stay where they are, I don't think I've disturbed the entrance to the hive because I've never seen any activity there before, so where the actual entrance is I have no idea because I have no idea how big a hive can be? Any advice on how to get rid of them would be greatfully appriciated to say the least :D

1/ Look on the internet for pictures of 'honeybees' and 'honeybee swarms'.

2/ Look on the internet for pictures of 'bumble bees' and 'bumble bee nests'. But bumble bees have mostly died out by now.

3/ I am assuming you know what a wasp looks like.

If you have a honeybee swarm someone will come and remove them for free without killing anything - if you find the right person. Look on this website for a contact phone no. of any beekeeper in your area. Any beekeeper should put you into touch with someone who can help.

If they are bumble bees, the nest will die out soon. Most bumble bees in my area have already died.

Hi and many thanks for the replies. I would have liked to have them removed without killing them to be honest so I'll definitely be looking through the list of contacts to see if there's anyone in my area. I went out before to have a look and there's a lot of them on the ground, tomorrow I'll try and take a photo of them and see if anyone can say for sure what sort of bee they are, they're definitely not wasps.

Hi Peapod

From the location you've described I would hazard a guess at wasps or bumble bees.

There are a lot of wasps around at the moment in my area and
I still see the occasional bumblebee on the catmint the garden. But as Chris has indicated their days are numbered as the weather gets cooler and their food supply runs out.

If you're sure they're not wasps than I've attached an image of a bumblebee that might meet your description, least ways it's the colour of a teddy bear I had as a child, (it's up in the loft somewhere gathering dust and missing an eye:().
