View Full Version : Deleting Posts

I know we are getting into the inactive season where there is less to post about than during the active season, but I have had a flurry of complaints about the unhelpful nature of some postings. This has resulted in some good contributors "backing off", which will result in the quality of the threads deteriorating.

We have a strict policy of not tolerating abusive or offensive posts, and spam, but otherwise we have allowed all other posts to stand. Since my involvement the only times posts have been edited by Moderators is when they are dangerous, advising something that is illegal, or against forum rules. The level of moderation is now far less than it once was, and I would like that state to continue, but must rely on members.

I have taken the trouble to read several threads at random and I can see that a small number of posts disrupt the flow of the thread, and I understand how annoying some members find them.

I believe that members should feel free to post whatever they like providing it is within the theme of the thread, and I certainly don't mind a bit of banter, but unhelpful or pointless threads will be deleted as they help nobody, and are annoying.

I suspect there may be some who think this action is a big stick, but my main concern is that the sensible regular contributors don't have to trawl through a lot of rubbish in order to follow a thread.

I have already PM'd regular offenders and will continue to do so, but I must ask everyone to read their posts and ask if they are contributing to the thread, or simply adding to their own total, before pressing the "submit" button.

As I don't think a discussion is needed I am locking this thread.

I look forward to your co-operation.

Roger Patterson.
