Feeding your bees

Feeding in the winter

1. Bees are vulnerable at this time of year
2. Make sure your bees don't run out of food
3. Provide fondant if you think they are short of stores
4. A small investment on fondant might turn out to have been invaluable

Training at the county apiary

Published May 20, 2009

The training sessions that were run at the apiary, Southwell, from May were extremely popular.  There were weeks when over 26 people attended - very encouraging. This training offered an opportunity for the novice to meet experienced beekeepers who were as always very pleased to offer advice and support.  Attendees were able to open hives, handle frames of bees, see queen rearing in action and ask questions.

We will run these sessions again next summer, so if you want to try beekeeping before committing yourself to it, these sessions give you the chance. We provide protective clothing, but if you have your own that helps - bring wellingtons and gloves - washing up gloves are fine.

The first session in 2010 is Saturday 15 May - and sessions will follow on most Saturdays after then, into July.  Look out for all the dates - they will be posted later.  If you haven't been before you will need to contact before you attend - use the Contacts page to get in touch.
