BBKA Workshop – Spring Convention Sunday 20 April 2008
Published Feb 13, 2008
How often do we find ourselves in difficulty recruiting officials at Branch and Association level? The lack of volunteers results in members having to carry on as Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman etc, for rather longer than they wish. Why is there this dearth of candidates? Of course we all lead busy lives and have other commitments, but could it be that many potential helpers are put off because they do not understand what (indeed, relatively how little) is involved in the jobs in question? With this in mind the BBKA is offering a workshop under the title “So you want to be….” during the Education Day at this year’s Spring Convention.
The workshop will try to cater for the key roles in Associations and Branches to include the Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman, Exam Secretary and Membership Secretary. The morning session will start with a core programme to cover:
The BBKA and its role
BBKA Constitution – a brief overview
Beekeeping facts, figures and economic information
Beekeeping and the law; regulations, medicines, public liability
Charity law basics
The afternoon sessions will cater for the specialist roles of:
Secretary
Treasurer (to include basic club accounting)
Membership Secretary (The members register)
The Examination Secretary (BBKA Exam System)
These sessions are open to existing officials who may wish to extend their expertise, of course.
If you have budding candidates for roles in your association and you think the workshop could help them, please get in touch with Mary Dartnell - 023 8077 5445 asap please. And by the way, perhaps there is such a thing as a free lunch – there is no fee payable for the workshop and lunch will be provided for participants.
Thank you for your help with this initiative.
Yours truly
Tim Lovett
President
