Spray Liaison
Farmers intending to use crop spray products that may harm bees will find them labelled as ‘harmful’, ’dangerous’, ‘extremely dangerous’ or ‘high risk’ to bees. During those times of the year when bees are at risk or when you intend to use a pesticide that may harm bees, you should inform the beekeepers identified in your environmental risk assessment or the Local Beekeepers’ Spray Liaison Officer 48 hours or at least the evening before you plan to use the pesticide. This will allow beekeepers to take the necessary precautions. You should also tell beekeepers if you change your plans. Advice taken from the Pesticides Safety Directorate website.
Spray Liaison Officers
Contact the nearest spray liaison officer on matters relating to crop spraying that effect honeybees. The county co-ordinator could put the farmer in touch with a more local contact if he/she wanted and/or would pass on the details to ensure affected beekeepers are informed.
